Mumbai: In a funny incident, a student from the Mumbai University had her surname printed as ‘Patang’ instead of ‘Kite’ on her degree certificate.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the degree was issued to Nikita Kite from Ramnarain Ruia College by the University. While the name was printed correctly in English, its translation was printed in the Devanagari script.

The university has said that a bug in the software causes it to translate words that are found in the dictionary to Marathi. “We manually verify every certificate before issuing it, but somehow missed the error in this case,” Deepak Wasave, the officiating controller of the examination, was quoted as saying.

The university has also issued a new certificate to Kite.
