Mumbai: A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court on Wednesday remanded Abdul Kadir Najmuddin Sathak, an aide of controversial televangelist Dr Zakir Naik and Dubai-based jeweller, to judicial custody.

Following this, Sathak filed a bail application saying that he had been falsely implicated in the case and there was no evidence on record against him.

The ED alleged that Sathak was also a director with 50 per cent partnership in a Dubai-based company called Global Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which owned Peace TV, a channel run by Naik. GBC routed Rs 79 crore to Harmony Media Pvt. Ltd. (HMPL) in Mumbai, which made the content for Peace TV.

The special PMLA court Judge M.S. Azmi remanded Sathak to judicial custody after the ED counsel Hiten Venegaonkar informed the court that the agency did not wish to take further custody of Sathak.

Sathak’s lawyer filed the bail application as soon as the court remanded him to judicial custody. His bail plea read, “There is nothing on record to show that the applicant acquired or dealt with any property that was derived or obtained either directly or indirectly as a result of criminal activity relating to schedule offence.”
Sathak sought bail on grounds of parity too, saying that another accused Amir Gazdar in the case, had already been granted bail.

Sathak’s medical condition, neuromascular disease called Myasthenia Gravis was also cited before the court while seeking bail from the court.
