Maharashtra govt declares reservation for disabled in jobs

Mumbai: Maharashtra Government has promised to give reservation to Divyang persons in jobs in its newly drafted policy. The government will ensure that the physically handicapped people would be given equal employment opportunities in the government as well as private jobs. The government would also keep three per cent of funds from budget reserved to provide facilities to the Divyang persons.

The Social Justice Department has come up with a policy for the physically handicapped people promising better environment, health facilities and opportunities in education and employment. The government has opened the draft for public and has invited suggestions and objections for the same.

“Employment is a tool to give the Divyang people prestige, self confidence and respect. The government assures equal opportunities for Divyang in the government as well as private sector. As per the Rights Persons Disabilities Act, the government will ensure reservation for the Divyang. They will not be denied jobs or opportunities in the education because of their physical disability despite having the all other qualifications required,” the draft policy said.

The government also wants to encourage the physically challenged people to pursue self- employment.

The government will provide loan facilities and easier repayment. Considering difficulties in getting certificate of being physically challenged, the government has assured that the procedure would be speedy, the draft said.

The infrastructure would be made friendly for the physically challenged persons. The government is committed to provide social security for the physically challenged people under which neglected and street children would be given some facilities.
