The Mumbai Bus Malak Sanghatana has said that the octroi naka land would help them sort their parking issues.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to develop the city’s defunct octroi nakas into transport hubs and central business districts (CBDs).

The proposal in the Development Plan 2034 to utilise the land of the five octroi nakas that were scrapped following the GST (goods and services tax) introduction from last July will allow the civic body to use the maximum floor space index (FSI) of five.

The land of octroi nakas was in demand from various agencies including the passenger bus association that wanted it for parking buses.“These octroi nakas are located at the border of the city. Keeping in mind the rising number of vehicles in the city, there is a need for a transport hub, which can accommodate these vehicles. We had proposed to develop them, which has been approved by the government,” said a senior civic official from the DP department.

“The remaining part of these nakas can be used commercially so that the BMC can also get revenue by using the five FSI,” he added.

The octroi nakas with a total land area of 43 acres were at: Eastern Express Highway (Mulund), LBS Marg (Mulund), Western Express Highway (Dahisar), Mumbai-Panvel Highway (Vashi) and Mulund-Airoli Link Road, (Airoli).
