Jail officials hit, threatened me after inmate's death: Indrani Mukerjea
The special CBI court on Tuesday directed the jail officials to produce Indrani Mukerjea before it on June 28.
Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, a prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case who is lodged in the Byculla women’s jail, claimed in an application that jail officials, including the superintendent, verbally abused her after riots broke out in the prison over the alleged killing of an inmate on Friday.
She also said she was threatened with sexual assault for protesting against the alleged murder of the convict, Manju Shetye, which had sparked off the protests.
The special CBI court on Tuesday directed the jail authorities to produce Mukerjea before it on June 28. Mukerjea — in her application, which was moved by her lawyer Gunjan Mangla on Tuesday — said she wanted to come before the court and lodge an FIR against the jail officials and that there were other inmates who also wanted to give statements against the jail authorities.
Women jail officials had allegedly killed Shetye over a petty issue. Later, most of the prisoners went to the jail’s terrace and started raising slogans against jail officials.
The police tried to bring the situation under control but the inmates had broken chairs and set them afire.
