Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday asked banks to disburse the crop loan to the state’s farmers immediately for the current kharif season. He was speaking at a meeting in which he reviewed the crop- loan distribution with bankers in Mantralaya.

The CM said that banks should consider disbursing the crop loan to the farmers as their national duty and they should show sensitivity while distributing the loans. The chief minister further said that the kharif season had started in the state and the farmers needed money to buy seeds and fertilisers. Hence, banks should provide the loan to the farmers within the stipulated period.

He directed all banks to order their branches to disburse the crop loan as soon as possible. “A state level meeting of the bankers committee was held in the last month and the targets of crop loan were set in consultation with bankers. Now banks have to follow those targets.”
