Mumbai to see 60 new local train services

This, other than the fact that the commuting patterns have changed to fewer people travelling to CSMT and Churchgate.

Activists and opposition parties are questioning the government's decision to scrap the project.

Mumbai: Mumbai will get a total of 60 new local services this October to help in decongesting the rush in trains. Out of the 60, 28 services will be increased on the Central Railway's, Harbour and Trans-Harbour line while the remaining 32 will be seen on the Western Railway (WR).

Although most of the trains have been limited to connecting far suburbs to far-off suburbs by both CR and WR, officials said that there is currently no space between Chhatrapatti Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Panvel as well as Churchgate and Andheri.

This, other than the fact that the commuting patterns have changed to fewer people travelling to CSMT and Churchgate.

The CR is yet to officially announce the new time-table for the mainline. This has been the second year and the fourth timetable, which has seen very few services reach South Mumbai due to complete saturation in those sections.
