BMC decides to renovate more houses in Mahul
The state government has approached the NGT for modifying its order and remove the observations about Mahul being inhabitable.
Mumbai: Despite complaints about the pollution and deteriorated quality of life, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to further renovate more than 4,000 houses for rehabilitation in the Mahul area, according to the sources from BMC.
Residents of Mahul have expressed their concerns stating that the BMC is going ahead with making more houses available in the area despite the Bombay high court’s order, which highlights that citizens cannot be forced to move to the area. The rehabilitation buildings are already infamous as ‘human dumping ground’ as several project-affected people have been shifted to the congested Mahul area with poor infrastructure.
According to a BMC official, around 250 houses in Mukund Nagar will be renovated for shifting people there and work will be completed soon. “We are also aiming at two other areas of Mahul, where around 4,000 houses will be renovated by the end of 2019,” he said.
