School bows to parents, sets up CCTVs

Mumbai: Months after the alleged rape at an Andheri-based IB school came under the police scanner and it was revealed in the probe that the absence of CCTV cameras there had hampered the process of evidence gathering; the school’s management has set up CCTV cameras to avoid any such incident in the future. The move came after the parents and police pressured the management to upgrade security arrangements in the school.  

The officers investigating the probe said that they had to primarily rely on the statements of the persons associated with the crime and that the availability CCTV footage would have helped in establishing the facts and the sequence of events.

Speaking to The Asian Age, Navinchandra Reddy, DCP, Zone 10 said, “The medical tests conducted on the accused were stated invalid as the incident had taken place over six months before doing the tests. Since there were no other eye witnesses in this case, only the statements were our source of information and confirmation.
