State kicks off vaccination campaign
The campaign will run for six weeks, where children aged nine months to 15 years will be vaccinated for measles-rubella.
Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed parents to enroll their children for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination. On Tuesday, the state health department launched the MMR vaccination drive with the aim of making Maharashtra free of measles-rubella.
The campaign will run for six weeks, where children aged nine months to 15 years will be vaccinated for measles-rubella.
Mr Fadnavis said, “Every year, thousands of children die due to measles-rubella. In order to secure the future of the young generation, parents should come forward and take a leading role in the measles-rubella vaccination drive. Parents should enroll their children in large numbers.”
Fourteen children who received MMR vaccination were handed over a certificate at the hands of Mr Fadnavis.
Dr Deepak Sawant, state health minister said, “The vaccine is safe for children. The vaccine will not have side effects at all. By 2020, the state aims to bring measles-rubella
in the state under control.”
