Vanrai police arrests man for stealing cars

The Vanrai police have booked the 32-year-old arrested accused under section 378 for theft in the IPC.

Mumbai: The Vanrai police have arrested a 32-year-old man on Thursday, whose modus operandi of the crime would be to lookout for sellers of the vehicle on an online portal, call the seller from a public phone booth and flee with the car on pretext of taking it on a test drive.

According to a senior police official of Vanrai police station, the arrested accused used to steal the cars on the pretext of taking a test drive of the car, to see the ‘smooth functioning’, following which he would flee the spot with the car. The arrested accused, whose name cannot be disclosed for the investigation purpose, is still being questioned for his heist, and will be remanded in police custody till further investigations are not completed.

The source attached to Vanrai police station added, “The arrested accused used to steal the cars and sell the car and its spare parts in the black market. We are fetching the details as to how many cars has he stolen in the past and where he used to sell them.”

Speaking to The Asian Age, Jyotsna Rasam, the senior police inspector of Vanrai police station said, “Vanrai police have arrested the accused on Thursday and have booked him under relevant sections of IPC. The arrested accused is being questioned and we are investigating the case. The police teams are still getting details of his robberies.” The Vanrai police have booked the 32-year-old arrested accused under section 378 for theft in the IPC.
