Six officials on poll duty trapped in lift, rescued

Mumbai: Six persons on election duty were rescued from a lift at a school in Kalwa Township in Thane district on Sunday after it stopped functioning due to a technical snag, a civic official said.

The incident took place in Sahakar Prasarak Mandal School, and Fire Brigade personnel rescued them after around forty minutes, an official said.

“The lift got stuck on the fourth floor,” said Santosh Kadam, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said. Poll staff frequently use the lift to reach the classrooms where the election material is stored, he said.
