Mumbai: A BEST bus rammed into a hair-treatment clinic at Arenja circle in Vashi at around 8 am on Sunday, injuring five persons, including passers-by, a bus passenger and a clinic worker. According to the police, the driver lost control over the bus after a car hit it at high speed, the impact of which made him tumble out of the bus. The driver-less bus then rammed into the clinic. Apart from the five injured, the driver got treated for minor injuries as well.

The Vashi police has questioned the drivers, both, of the bus and the car to establish their roles in the accident. The five injured persons were released from a local hospital after treatment, according to the police.

A Vashi police officer said, “Many accidents have occurred at Arenja circle because of drivers not being alert. When the bus was coming from the other side, the car collided with the bus from right side. Neither of them paid attention to their sides due to which the accident occurred.”

A passer-by, Ramesh Shetty, who was there for morning walk, said, “After the car collided into the bus, the bus driver dropped down and the bus took a left turn and stopped after it rammed over the clinic. A passer-by and clinic worker suffered from minor injuries. We immediately took them to the hospital.”

A. Landge, senior police inspector of Vashi police station, said, “We are investigating to ascertain whose fault this is. Prima facie, BEST driver is responsible for the accident. Soon we will file case against the concerned person.”

In May 2016, a BEST bus driver, trying to avoid hitting a tempo, crashed into the corner of a road divider near Arenja circle in sector 17, Vashi around 9 am on a Sunday. On July 16, seven people were injured in a collision between a truck and an NMMT bus in Vashi.
