Uttan residents call-off bandh planned in June
The decision to temporarily postpone the bandh came after an assurance by Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) officials.
Mumbai: In a breather for the civic administration, the residents of coastal villages in and around Uttan near Bhayandar have postponed their proposed bandh scheduled in June under the aegis of the Dharavi Bet Jan Akrosh Morcha (DBJAM), to protest the dumping menace. The decision to temporarily postpone the bandh came after an assurance by Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) officials of fast-tracking the process of decentralising the twin-city’s waste management system which has been operating in the form of a single plant at Dhaavgi, Uttan, for over a decade
A delegation comprising members of local social organisations and heads of fishing societies, under the aegis of the newly-formed Akrosh Morcha, on Monday met civic chief, Balaji Khatgaonkar, in the presence of ASP, Atul Kulkarni.
“Efforts are on to identify spots across the twin-city to try and decentralise garbage processing. We have also chalked out a roadmap to ensure that all bulk waste-generating housing complexes start their own wet waste composting units.” said Mr Khatgaonkar.
