Electrocution, wall collapse kills 3, injures 5

Mumbai: The heavy rain Friday resulted in several incidents of tree fall, electrocution, wall collapse and landslide, killing three people and injuring five others, including a minor.

A total 14 instances of short circuit were reported by 6pm Friday. In a case of electrocution in front of the RTO office in Andheri, a 60-year-old woman, Kashima Yudiyar, lost her life. Ms Yudiyar suffered an electric shock at around 7.45am Friday when it was pouring. She was taken to Cooper hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

In another incident, a family of four suffered an electric shock in which two members lost their lives. The incident took place behind Durgamata Mandir in Iravani estate at around 7.55 am. The victims - Rajendra Yadav (60), Sanjay Yadav (24), Aasha Yadav (5) and Dipu Yadav (24) were taken to Trauma Care hospital by the local police. The doctors declared Rajendra and Sanjay dead on arrival while Aasha and Dipu are now in a stable condition.

A total six incidents of wall collapse were reported by 6pm. At Dadar’s Senapati Bapat Road, three people were injured after a retaining wall collapsed. It was around 2.50 pm when the retaining wall of Kamgar stadium collapsed and Chandrakant Todavale (40), Vijay Naagar (35) and Chetan Tathe (28) were injured. The victims were taken to KEM Hospital where Todavale and Naagar were declared critical even as Tathe was declared
safe.
