Mumbai: After hours of search, the district administration finally retrieved the body of fisherman Pono Santram Yadav (20), one of the crew member of a boat which had capsized in the Arabian Sea, off the Uttan coast on Sunday night.
A native of a remote village in Chhattisgarh, Yadav was employed as a khalasi (helper) with a fishing boat in Bhatodi Bunder. The incident took place at around 9.30 pm, when Yadav along with six other crewmembers were sailing in a small transit boat to reach and board the fishing vessel anchored in the deep sea. It is suspected that due to the turbulent weather and sudden imbalance in weight, the boat overturned. While six crew members managed to swim to safety, Yadav was reported missing. Divers and locals had been searching for the missing fisherman, till late in the night. “Yadav’s body was recovered from the sea channel in Chowk on Tuesday,” confirmed assistant police inspector Pravin Salunkhe. An accidental death case has been registered in this context.
