Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party leader Chhagan Bhujbal has received a threat letter in Nashik for opposing Manusmriti, an ancient text of Hindu law. “If you do not stop opposing the Manusmriti, you will meet with the same fate as Dabholkar and Pansare,” reads the letter addressed to the Bhujbal Farm in Nashik. Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare were killed by alleged Hindu extremists in Pune and Kolhapur, respectively.

Mr Bhujbal, who is out on bail in the Enforcement Directorate case against him, is nowadays staying at his farm in Nashik. Sunday morning, he received the anonymous threat letter.

Upon receiving the letter, Bhujbal informed NCP chief Sharad Pawar and state chief Jayant Patil. NCP workers from Nashik immediately gathered at his home. Nashik city NCP leaders met the Nashik commissioner of police and requested him to increase police cover to  Bhujbal.

Recently, in Nagpur,  Bhujbal had made statements against the Manusmriti. “In India, we want to live under the guidance of the Constitution and not the Manusmriti. This BJP government is trying to bring Manusmriti in the country. We shall oppose it,” he had said at the NCP’s ‘Save Constitution’ rally.
