CBFC to hear petition against film on Ayodhya
The court has also directed that the CBFC take a decision before December 6 as the film is slated to release the same day.
Mumbai: The Bombay high court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to look into the petition filed against the film, Ram Janma Bhoomi, allegedly containing objectionable material that may cause communal problems in the society. The court has also directed that the CBFC take a decision before December 6 as the film is slated to release the same day.
A division bench of Justice B.P. Dharmadhikari and Justice Sarang Kotwal was hearing a petition filed against the film. According to the petition, film producer Waseem Rizvi, president of the Shia Waqf board, had made the controversial film on the subject of Ayodhya. Petitioner Azhar Tamboli alleged that the film’s content might disturb religious sentiments, creating law and order problems in the country.
The petitioner stated that on November 19, the film’s trailer was shown on television with well-known Hindi film industry actors featured in it. He sought that the Central Board of Film Certification should not give a censor certificate to such a film and asked the high court to pass order to that effect.
Hasnian Kazi, the petitioner’s lawyer, told The Asian Age, “A film which can disturb harmony between Hindus and Muslims should not be permitted to release.”
The high court has directed the film producer to file his reply to the petition and posted the case for further hearing on December 4.
