Mumbai: The Maharashtra Samajwadi Party youth president, Farhan Azmi, lodged an FIR with the Colaba police station claiming that he had received a call from an unknown person, threatening to kill him. A case has been registered under Section 295A, Deliberate and Malicious acts, intending to outrage religious sentiments of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

According to police officials, the call came on Wednesday and there was a group of two or three people who spoke on the call, threatening to plant bombs in their vehicles, houses and offices.

The group also used offensive and vile language against the family and the Muslim community as a whole, according to the FIR.

Speaking about the call, Mr Azmi said, “I received a call from a man, who I think is from the Hindu community, who threatened to kill me and my wife. He also said ‘tell your father Abu Azmi to stop unnecessary talk like an animal. Also tell the son of Owaisi, that he too will not be spared.’ They threatened me for marrying Ayesha (Takia) and said it was a love-jihad. I tried to speak to him peacefully but when it got too much, I told him that if he had a problem with my father, then he should talk to him. To which the caller said that I was following in my father’s step.”

The Colaba police officials said, “We have registered the case under IPC sections 295(a), 506(2) 504. We are checking whose call it was and will find the culprit who threatened them. We have received information on the number from which the call was made and we are closely observing the  person and will soon make an arrest in this case.”
