Rescued commuters were brought to Kalyan station

They were provided drinking water and biscuits by the Railway team.

Around three buses were arranged by the Kalyan railway and rushed to the spot after the incident was reported.

Mumbai: After rescuing passengers of the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express train that derailed near Asangaon, Thane, the Kalyan RPF team brought them along with their luggage to the Kalyan railway station via three specially-requisitioned buses. A majority of passengers were residents of Dadar, Byculla, and Andheri. They were provided drinking water and biscuits by the Railway team.

A few passengers got panic attacks while some others suffered scratches on their limbs. Around three buses were arranged by the Kalyan railway and rushed to the spot after the incident was reported.

According to one of the passengers, they panicked initially as some of their co-passengers were seen booking private cabs to reach their destination. However, they were relaxed after three buses reached the spot. 31 people were brought to Kalyan station in a bus.

The station manager of Kalyan PK Das said, “Not a single person was severely injured. The passengers suffered minor panic attacks and scratches on their knees. Hence, nobody was taken to any hospital, and no lives were lost.”

The RPF head of the Kalyan division said, “The derailment took place due to heavy rains. The state has witnessed heavy rainfall. Hence the mud near the railway tracks became slippery. However not many were affected, but the long-distance train passengers will face inconvenience while reaching their destination.”

Majority of the passengers were seen returning to Mumbai after Ganpati celebration at their hometown Nagpur.
