Central Railway trains delayed due to rail fracture

The incident affected services on the up line of harbour for half-an-hour, leading to the blocking of three rakes.

Mumbai: Suburban services on the harbour line of Central Railway (CR) were affected due to a rail fracture at Manasarovar at 8am on Wednesday.  According to a CR officer, thanks to an alert track-man who spotted the rail fracture and reported it to the control room, a major mishap on Harbour line was averted. The rail fracture was repaired by 8.28 am. However, trains were delayed by up to 30 minutes in the morning.

The incident affected services on the up line of harbour for half-an-hour, leading to the blocking of three rakes.

Nitin Nair, who works at a hospitality firm at Nariman Point and travels from Belapur to CSMT every day, said that the train was overcrowded compared to other days. It was delayed for more than half-an-hour sans any announcement. A.K. Jain, senior public relations officer (PRO) of CR, said that Ajay Futra, electrical signal maintainer (B) from Belapur noticed a rail fracture between Khandeshwar and Manasarovar on the up harbour line at 8.00 am and immediately conveyed the same to the control office. His timely action averted a possible rail mishap.
