The Bombay high court disposed of petition filed by advocate Owais Pechkar raising pothole issue on the Mumbai-Goa highway.

Mumbai: Heavy vehicles have been banned on the Mumbai-Goa Highway during Ganesh Chaturthi in order to ease the traffic in Konkan region, transport minister Diwakar Raote said on Thursday.

However, the vehicles carrying essential commodities such as milk, petrol and diesel would be allowed to ply on the route.

He said that trucks carrying sand, large trailers and heavy vehicles would be banned on the highway during Ganesh Chaturthi. The ban will be imposed on the National Highway between August 30 (12.01 pm) and September 13 (08.00 pm).

Mr Raote also said that the Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) is plying additional buses in several parts of the state.
