State nearing monsoon withdrawal phase

Mumbai: After late arrival of monsoon, the state is nearing the monsoon withdrawal phase of this year. In southwest region, the withdrawal of monsoon is predicted after
October 1.

As per the forecast of the Indian Meteorological department (IMD) for next five days, the Maharashtra state including Konkan, Vidharbha and Marathwada will receive scattered rainfall to one or two spells of heavy rainfall. For Mumbai, the IMD has predicted one or two spells of heavy rainfall/thunderstorm at night for next 48 hours.

This monsoon, maximum district of Maharashtra received excess rainfall. While Mumbai city and suburban, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, Dhule and Palghar districts received highest excess rainfall (60 per cent or more), districts that have received excess rainfall are Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Nagpur, Gadch-iroli, Jagaon and Nand-urba, as per IMD data.

The data also mentioned regions that received normal rainfall —Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Jalna, Osmanabad, Parbhani, Nanded, Hingoli, Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gondia and Buldhana.

However, the five districts in the state that have received deficient rainfall are Beed, Latur, Solapur, Yeotmal and Washim, the IMD data stated.

The average monsoon rainfall in Mumbai city and suburban is 2,203 mm and 2,514 mm respectively. This monsoon till September 24, city and suburban areas recorded 2,656 mm and 3,634 mm rainfall respectively which is more than the average monsoon rainfall.
