City doctors suggest yoga, meditation for mumbaikars to keep diseases away

In the wake of lifestyle diseases being held responsible for causing more than 61 per cent deaths in India over the last two years in a CSE report, doctors of the state and civic hospitals in the city are urging their patients to practice Yoga and meditation to get reduce their stress levels. All major civic hospitals have also come up with specially designed counselling sessions for the same.
Talking to The Asian Age, Dr Avinash Supe, director of major civic-run hospitals, said, “We have designed special counselling sessions, which includes meditation, music therapy and mind related activities to help people cope up with their daily stress.”
“Lack of sleep, following an unhealthy diet and lifestyle are the major causes of stress, diabetes, blood pressure, hyper acidity and lung ailments,” he added.
Sunita Narain, director general, CSE, said, “Having too much salt, sugar, fat content and foods that are low in nutrition work as invitation for health related troubles.”
