Cops arrest man with Rs 20 lakh ephedrine

MUMBAI: Acting on a tip-off, the Amboli police arrested Mohammad Nadeem Khan (26), an alleged courier and seized five kilograms of ephedrine drug worth Rs 20 lakh from him on Tuesday night.

The accused was intended to sell the banned drug and was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to police sources, Amboli police received information that a person was to reach Jogeshwari bus top with a banned drug. Acting on the information, the police laid a trap with police officials dressed as civilians.

They then arrested Nadeem and seized ephedrine, which is a constituent of some medicines, but is also misused by drug addicts, from him.

Bharat Gaikwad, senior police inspector of Amboli police station said, “The team nabbed Nadeem, who was seen moving around in a suspicious manner, and found that he was carrying five kg of ephedrine. Interrogation revealed that he was allegedly going to deliver the drugs to some peddlers.”

The police have booked him and are trying to acquire his list of customers.
