Mumbai: Guwahati resident Mekhail Bora has claimed that he faces a threat to his life from his mother, Indrani Mukerjea, who is the prime accused in the 2012 murder case of her biological daughter Sheena Bora. Mekhail expressed his fear for his life in an email he sent to the CBI officer who is investigating the murder case. The officer informed the court about Mekhail’s email and sought that instructions be issued to the Assam Director General of Police, for undertaking necessary measures for his protection.

CBI counsels Kavita Patil and Bharat Badami on Wednesday pointed out to CBI Judge J. C. Jagdale that the deputy superintendent of police (CBI), K. K. Singh on Wednesday checked his email and found one from Mekhail dated May 17, in which he spoke about the threat to his life.  The CBI requested the court to forward this mail to the Assam DGP for taking necessary action to protect Mekhail, who is a prosecution witness in the case against Indrani.

Judge Jagdale is expected to pass an order on this application in due course. In his mail, Mekhail said that he has filed a case to grant probate of his grandmother, the late Durga Ranee Bora’s will. The executor of the will informed Mekhail that he is in touch with Indrani’s lawyers and hence he is “feeling very suspicious and scared”.

According to sources, in his email, Mekhail has further claimed that the executor of the will, who is also his neighbour, is allegedly harassing him mentally since January this year when he informed the court that he does not want this probate as the executor was allegedly in touch with Indrani’s lawyers.

It may be recalled that the court, which is hearing Mekhail’s probate petition, has already asked Indrani to file her objections. Indrani’s mother died in October 2015 and she had prepared her will on April 30, 2012. Durga Ranee had not bequeathed any of her property to Indrani. After Sheena’s death all her property can go to Mekhail. Indrani has alleged that Mekhail had attached false documents to the probate petition.
