Mumbai: The Mumbai police and the BMC are at loggerheads over the case of Rajesh Maru, who died after being sucked into an MRI unit at Nair Hospital. The police want the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC’s) inquiry report into the incident before filing a chargesheet in the case. However, the BMC has refused to share the report with the police, stating that it has nothing to do with criminal investigation. The BMC has said that the police should go ahead with their chargesheet.

A senior officer from BMC, said, they had submitted the preliminary enquiry report to the police station. In the month of April, a report was submitted to the concerned authorities, now, we are conducting an internal administrative enquiry.

The officer added, “This is an enquiry for internal documentation is nothing to do with the police and legal proceedings. Police can take action on the basis of preliminary reports and go ahead with their formalities.”

Senior police inspector Savlaram Agawane of Agripada police station said civic officials had failed to submit the reports despite repeated reminders and letters.

“On the basis of only medical reports, how can we file the chargesheet, but civic officials claim they have submitted the report but we have not received the details, due to which the entire case is on hold and we have done the needful.”

Maru (32), died after being sucked into the MRI machine in January, when he carried an oxygen cylinder — in the room.
