Two thieves allegedly entered BMC-run Shatabdi Hospital and made away with four mobile phones belonging to employees who were in the rest room, pushing one of them who caught them in the act.
While Govandi police has arrested one of the accused with the help of CCTV footage, they are on the lookout for the other accused. Police are investigating the suspicious role of security guards who were present at the gate when the robbers fled and still did not try to nab them. They are also probing whether patients lost any of their valuables in the last two days or before.
Police officials said that during the early hours of Thursday, the hospital’s ambulance attendant, Chandrakant Bhise, returned along with his driver from Sion hospital and the duo walked into the employees’ rest room to catch a few winks. In the meanwhile, the accused – Suraj Sangappa Gaadge (27) and Arjun - entered the rest room and were about to escape with the mobile phones and clothes when Mr Bhise, hearing some noise, woke up. The robbers pushed him and fled from the scene.
PSI Dattatray Londe, Govandi police station, said, “After committing the robbery at Shatabdi hospital, both accused were trying to target another hospital but our patrolling staff caught one of them red-handed as we got CCTV footage from Shatabdi and alerted every staff member about both accused. We are investigating the security personnel as they were present at the gate but did not see the robbers fleeing from the hospital.”
