The temperature in Mumbai is predicted to remain between 15-30 degree celsius in the first quarter of 2016, and for next few days the climate is expected to stay hazy.

Factors such as low visibility level and rise in the pollution will be experienced in the island city, citing sudden fall in the speed of wind currents. “On normal days the average flow of wind is somewhere between 7-8 km per hour, but currently it is clocking around 3-4 km per hour, due to which the dust particles have been suspended in the air causing haziness,” said Dr. R.N. Sabale, former Agricultural meteorologist from Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth.

“After studying the weather reports of the last 30 years, I think 2016 should be a moderately stable year. Out of last 30 years, weather during 15 years has been abnormal when rainfall was below average or poor, unstable for 11 years when rainfall was average and has been moderately stable for only 4 years when the rainfall was above average,” he added.

Meanwhile, the temperature during the last week of December was recorded at 11.6 degree centigrade, the lowest in the last one decade. The all-time lowest temperature was recorded on December 20, 1949 at 10.6 degree centigrade. However the temperature in the city is expected to get back to normal with the commencement of 2016.

“Till February the average minimum temperature in the city will be approximately 18 degree centigrade at night, whereas the maximum temperature might go up to 27-33 degrees celsius during day time,” said V.K. Rajeev, director of western region, Indian Meteorological Department.

The flow of Northernly winds towards Maharashtra was predicted as the reason behind the sudden drop of mercury level in the city.
