Three companies have emerged as the lowest bidders for the three packages for construction of 16.5-km-long Andheri (east)-Dahisar (east) Metro-7 corridor.

While confirming the development, metropolitan commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) U.P.S. Madan said that J Kumar infra projects, NCC Infrastructure holdings limited and Simplex Infrastructure limited were the lowest bidders for the project.

The MMRDA, in December 2015, invited e-tenders for designing and constructing an elevated viaduct and 16 stations for the Andheri (East) to Dahisar (East) Metro-7 corridor on a cash contract model in three separate packages.

The first package consists of designing and constructing of an elevated viaduct and five elevated stations namely Andheri (east), Shankarwadi, JVLR Junction, Mahananda and New Ashok Nagar.

Subsequently, the second package consists of designing and constructing of an elevated viaduct and six elevated stations namely Aarey, Dindoshi, Pathanwadi, Pushpa Park, Bandongri and Mahindra & Mahindra.

While, the third package consists of designing and constructing of an elevated viaduct and five elevated stations namely Magathane, Devipada, National Park, Ovaripada and Dahisar (east). “The quotation by the three consortiums is 10 per cent lower of what was expected and three identified consortiums will now be assigned work of design and construct the entire corridor and 16 stations in 30 months in the form of a work order which will be issued to the three consortiums’ after the upcoming executive committee of MMRDA formally accepts the offer,” said a senior MMRDA official, requesting anonymity.

The total cost of the Metro-7 corridor is Rs 6,208 crore out of which MMRDA plans to generate 36 per cent of the funds via a soft loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). According to MMRDA officials, ADB officials are quite positive about funding the project and the state government will take a call on it soon.

The MMRDA had conducted a pre-bid meeting in January 2016 where around 16 firms had show interest in constructing the metro-7 corridor namely HCC infrastructure limited, NCC infrastructure holding limited, Tata, J Kumar infrastructure projects, Reliance Infrastructure limited, Simplex Infrastructure limited with many others had shown interest.
