A 45-year-old man, who was going to get medicines for his ailing relative being treated at the Sir JJ Hospital, was killed after a speeding truck mowed him in front of the government run hospital late on Saturday night. The 27-year-old truck driver has been arrested. He was not driving under the influence of alcohol, the police said.

According to the Sir JJ Marg police, the incident occurred at around 11 pm in front of the hospital outside gate no. 7. The deceased, Vinay Anant Mohite, was crossing the road to get medicines from a chemist shop located across the road for his ailing uncle. The truck was heading towards Dongri when Mohite was hit on his hand first.

Due to the sudden impact he lost control over his body, turned and came under the rear wheel of the truck. He was rushed to JJ Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A postmortem was conducted at the same hospital and the body was handed over to his family.

The accused has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before a court and released on bail.
