75-year-old woman dies in clash

A 75-year-old woman died while her grandson was injured when a clash broke out between two groups here during kite flying on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the police said on Saturday.

A 75-year-old woman died while her grandson was injured when a clash broke out between two groups here during kite flying on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the police said on Saturday.

The two groups allegedly pelted stones at each other in Meera Datar Darga area here, they said. The incident occurred Friday evening in Meera Datar Darga while some youth were enjoying kite flying on the terrace of a civic body community centre, some stones fell on the road from the terrace, leading to clash between two groups of youth, Bhadrakali Police Station inspector Madhukar Kad said.

Soon they indulged in pelting stones at each other and also damaged some vehicles in the vicinity, the officer said, adding that a boy along with his grandmother, who was riding pillion, was passing through the area. The boy, identified as Ganesh Thakare was injured when a stone hit him, while his grandmother, Bababai Thakare, died of shock at Nashik civil hospital, he said.

The victims were residents of Shimpi Lane area in old Nashik. A case has been lodged, the police said.
