The air-conditioned train meant for the city suburban system has cleared its first trial. Important electrical equipment like the closed-door and the talk back system through which the commuters can talk directly to the motorman were a few of the components that were checked in this trial.

The trial that is being currently run in the Kurla car-shed are stationary trials are conducted by the officials of the Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO), which does safety checks of all the various parameters.

An official who was present at the trial on the condition of anonymity said, “The most important component for us today was that the doors of all the 12 coaches would shut and open when done so from the cabin. If the door on one side isn’t synched to the system it will either shut too early, open too early or wouldn’t shut or open at all which is a problem as most platforms can be accessed only from one side of the train in Mumbai.”

The officials then checked if the talkback system from each coach was functional in each of the coaches. “The talk back system is very important in this train in particular as we have never had this kind of rake in the Mumbai suburban system until now,” said the official.

The trial will continue for the next two to three weeks, said officials.
