In a bid to promote sports in India, Air India is planning to tie up with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay to organise a sports league.

In a bid to promote sports in India, Air India is planning to tie up with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay to organise a sports league. According to sources, the national carrier has national-level players in its service from the sports quota and they plan to make these players ambassadors for these college-level games.

Through this campaign, AI is aiming attract the youth as the events will be held under the flagship of the national carrier, sources said.

A top AI official informed The Asian Age that players like Yuvraj Singh (cricket) and Gagan Narang (shooting), who are also employees of the airline, would be featured in the videos to be played in the aircraft for promoting sports in the country.

The airline will organise matches at Delhi University, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi and IIM Delhi in the initial stage. The players of the winning team will be felicitated and their interviews will be published in AI’s magazine. Participants in the league will take part in live chat sessions with sports personalities on online platforms like Google Hangouts.

According to sources, the airline is planning to start its Mumbai campaign at IIT Bombay.

During the initiative, the airline will organise friendly matches in which celebrities and participants from different organisations will take part. The pictures of these matches will be shared on the social networking sites.
