Following its preliminary probe into the double suicide involving a live-in couple in Andheri, the police has said that the deceased duo seemed to have been depressed, as per their neighbours’ accounts, and ruled out that the parents had any role in them taking the extreme step.
Khyati Harilal Gohil (33) who was from Vasai was working as a nurse at a private hospital in Andheri and had left her job almost six months ago. Vivek Gupta (35), who was a mass media student and from Haryana, was unemployed for a long time, said the police. The neighbours told officials that the duo neither had friends nor interacted with anyone.
Khyati’s brother told the police she was not on talking terms with him and her mother had died long ago, so she used to rarely talk with her father too. Vivek last contacted his family one and a half years ago. “The boy’s family was not even aware he was in a live-in relationship,” said senior police inspector Shailesh Digambar Pasalwad. Officials have found that Vivek was often upset. So, they suspect unemployment could have driven the couple to suicide.
