An army man travelling in the Guwahati Express was assaulted and robbed by some unknown men in the early hours of Saturday. Identified as Pakaj Hazarilal, the man was found lying on the tracks near Ghatkopar and was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital by the Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP). With Mr Hazarilal in no condition to reveal the turn of events, police officials are waiting for him to regain consciousness to know what happened to him.

Mr Hazarilal had caught the train from Guwahati and was apparently travelling overnight. He was supposed to reach Dadar station in the early hours of Saturday. However, tragedy struck somewhere near Kalyan station. Talking to The Asian Age in his semi-conscious state, Mr Hazarilal said that a few people first stole his belongings and then hit him on the head.

“Before Kalyan, they took everything I had and hit me. I don’t exactly remember but I saw a nullah before falling down,” he recalled.

Officials from Kurla police station said that even they were clueless about how Mr Hazarilal ended up in such a condition as he was not able to narrate the incident in detail.

“We found him lying on the tracks at around 9 am and immediately rushed him to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. We will wait for a day or two and see if any of his relatives or friends know more about it,” they said.

Doctors from Rajawadi Hospital confirmed that Mr Hazarilal has been admitted to the casualty ward and his current condition is critical. “He has sustained a head injury with multiple fractures. He has been kept under observation as of now,” said one of the doctors.
