In an attempt to woo the working class, the BJP has planned to set up facilitation centres that will help the people find employment through Mudra Bank. Union minister for social justice Thavar Chand Gehlot instructed party leaders to find out needy persons, focus on how to get them loans from Mudra Bank and then encourage them to join the party. Senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse, who was present at the meeting, confirmed that the party was going to set up the facilitation centres.

“The party has asked every worker to approach to people from the working class and inform them about the funding under Mudra. We are going to set up one such centre in each ward of a municipal corporation or a council,” Mr Khadse said.

The facilitation centres will help the people – that includes plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc. to get financial assi stance from the bank to set up their own shops.

Mudra Bank, a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been set up to provide funds for skill development. The Union government has made it mandatory for all nationalised banks to reserve some funds for the Mudra Bank.

Explaining the need to target the working class Mr Khadse said, “These are the people who don’t get good jobs because of their weak educational qualification. Also, they don’t have enough money to start their own business. The Mudra scheme will help them be self employed,” he said.

Mudra Bank provides interest free loan up to Rs 50,000 to the working class. The loan above Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh attracts an annual interest of 12 per cent. They do not need to either mortgage anything in lieu of that or a guarantor.
