Bodies of two of the three men, who were swept away in the sea at Versova on Saturday were found Sunday morning.
The trio, identified as Rohit Tiwari (27), Satyaprakash Chawan (25) and Priyank Yadav (25), had come to the city recently to celebrate the birthday of Tiwari, who was living near the Andheri Mhada Colony.
Tiwari’s body was recovered on Saturday, while the bodies of Satyaprakash and Priyank bodies were recovered on Sunday.
According to the police, the trio was part of a group of five that had ventured into the beach in the afternoon. They were drinking liquor on the beach when lifeguards spotted them and asked them to leave. However, after the lifeguards left, the group re-entered the beach.
A lifeguard on duty said, “Around 2.40 pm, we spotted five guys drinking on the seashore. So, I asked them to leave the beach. One of our workers went to shut the gate to the beach from the adjoining lane. We had gone to pick up ropes when they went back to the beach.”
Chief fire officer Prabhat Rahangdale, said, “Of the five, three were swept deeper into the rough sea. We managed to recover the body of one the youths immediately. He was declared dead on admission at the Cooper Hospital. The remaining two bodies were recovered Sunday morning.”
“We have stationed fire brigade personnel on the beach. However, the number of visitors is increasing every day and it is difficult for us to control and guide them constantly. Visitors should also be responsible and take care of themselves, especially during high tide,” Mr Rahangdale said.
