Navi Mumbai police has received information that builder Raj Kandhari (44) of Swaraj Group who took his own life on Monday was suffering from serious health issues for the past two years, and that was one of the main reasons behind his suicide. Sources said Mr Kandhari had fought with his wife the same day he committed suicide. Police also found several cases of cheating registered against him.
Mr Kandhari’s friends still cannot believe that he killed himself. One of his friends said, “He was a dashing person. He started his career as a photographer but left that and started working as a real estate agent. After saving some money, he changed his profession a third time and entered the builders’ lobby. He used to fearlessly handle so many aspects of his business single-handedly.”
A source said, “The real reason behind his committing suicide is not the business or any money problem. He was depressed for the past few years owing to ill health. He did not tell anyone but he had serious health issues.”
Acting upon information that Mr Kandhari had been admitted to Lilavati Hospital, the police approached concerned authorities however was asked to wait for five more days. Police said the day Mr Kandhari killed himself, he had a strong argument with his wife on some issue because of which his wife decided to go to her Pune residence. Later in the afternoon, he committed suicide.
DCP Shahaji Umap said, “We are trying to find the main reason behind his death, whether it is family issues, health issues or business issues. We are recording the statements of a few family members and friends who were very close to him. We will soon come to a conclusion.”
Meanwhile, police has found there are 15 cases registered against Kandhari in Kharghar, Nhava Sheva, Vashi, Bandra, Naupada and Thane police stations under various sections of the IPC.
Sources also said the police had found some medication during the search conducted at Kandhari’s house.
