A car from the chief minister’s convoy met with an accident around midnight on Thursday at Malabar Hill. Five people, including two policemen in the convoy car and three women in another car, were wounded. All the injured persons are being treated in different hospitals.
The Malabar Hill police said that the Scorpio was on its way to Malabar Hill where the CM’s official residence, Varsha, is located, while an Innova was headed towards Girgaum Chowpatty from Malabar Hill when the two cars collided near Ajanta Apartments, close to the lower gate of Raj Bhavan. The Scorpio was being driven by police constable Chandrakant Tavre (50) and had another police constable Vittal Sawant inside, while the Innova was being driven by Faiza Momeen (21) and had her sister and friend inside. Apparently, the girls were on their way home after dropping their friend off at Malabar Hill. Moments after the collision, the police reached the spot and shifted the two injured policemen to Bombay Hospital and the injured girls to St Elizabeth Hospital.
Apart from Mr Tavre and Faiza Momeen, others who sustained injuries have been identified as Inshaa Momeen (16) and Juhi Shah (22). Senior police inspector Munir Inamdar said, “A case under the Indian Penal Code and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against Faiza Momeen. We have taken Mr Tavre and Faiza Momeen’s blood samples to verify if either of them was under the influence of alcohol.”
