The Vasai police has arrested one from a trio that duped three complainants of Rs 5 lakh in total on the pretext of providing them international jobs.

The arrested accused, who has been identified as Vishal Joshi, will be produced in court on Tuesday, while officials are searching for his partners.

“We had received complaint against the trio a few months ago,” said senior police inspector Sampat Rao Patil.

“On Monday we arrested Joshi. The others are locals and will be arrested soon. We have registered a case against them under various sections of the IPC,” he further added.

According to police sources, officials had received three complaints against the accused.

The complainants informed the police that they had encountered Joshi, a Bhuigaon resident, via friends last February and he later introduced them to his partners.

The trio assured the complainants that they could secure them jobs in Dubai, US, UK and Australia.

Following this, complainant Sumit Aakre paid Joshi Rs 2 lakh while other two paid Rs 1.5 lakh each. They were, however, denied receipts by the accused.

Two months later, the accused gave Mr Aakre an offer letter, saying he had got a job in Australia, and told him to undergo a medical check up.

When Mr Aakre, after submitting his medical documents, came to know that his letter was bogus, he approached Joshi and told him to either give him an original letter or a refund. Joshi, however, told him to be patient.

“Whenever the complainants inquired about the situation, the trio would tell them to wait and when they started demanding their money back, the accused threatened them,” an official said.
