24-year-old Suraj Mandal was arrested on February 5 hours after he allegedly raped a four-year-old girl. While residents of the area have been demanding police verification of all the single men who are residing in the area on rent, the landlords of these men visited the local police station on Tuesday and ensured the submission of a verification document to the police.
Political parties like the RPI, MNS held rallies in the area, with RPI members holding a rally from Dindoshi court to Dindoshi police station. Meanwhile, MNS leader Shalini Thackrey visited the area and met the locals.
According to the residents of Vadhripada area of Gokuldham area where the rape occurred, in their area at least 30 men from different parts of country are living in some flats owned by a hotelier. They said these men are also employees in the hotel. The accused, is also among them, they said. Since then locals have been demanding verification of all the single men staying in those flats. After this on Tuesday the hotel owner visited the police station and told the officials he would submit the verification documents of all the men working at his hotel.
Meanwhile, the victim is now stable but is still in hospital and under treatment. She has received more than 15 stitches and is not able to move.
