During the house search of the assistant engineer from the BMC who was caught in bribery case on Thursday, the Maharashtra ACB have found documents to a flat, Rs 24,000 in cash, 180 grammes of gold and a bank locker, which will be opened next week. He has been remanded to police custody for three days.

The accused Anum Nevrekar was trapped by ACB in 2004 for not taking action against illegal construction and was suspended till his acquittal in 2010. He has been trapped again for accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh for not initiating action against an illegal construction.

The trap was laid at around 5 pm in the cabin of the accused. He is posted in the building factory department in the E ward office of the BMC in Byculla. He was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. He was also arrested in 2004 for seeking a bribe for a similar reason but was acquitted in the case.

The complainant has claimed that he had built an illegal one storied structure on his house in a chawl in Byculla. He had then sold the structure to another person. When Nevrekar learnt about this he demanded Rs 5 lakh as bribe. After negotiations, the amount was brought down to Rs 2 lakh.

The complainant then approached the Mumbai ACB on Wednesday. Within 24 hours the ACB verified his claim and laid a trap. The bribe money has been recovered from him. He has been arrested and will be produced before a special ACB court on Friday.
