Five men made away with 23 kg of gold worth around Rs 6.3 crore from a gold finance office in Navi Mumbai after threatening the employees at gunpoint on Saturday afternoon.

The Navi Mumbai police has asked for CCTV footage from the server of the Kerala office of the gold finance company.

According to police officials, on Saturday around at 3:30 pm, five accused wearing handkerchief masks on their faces entered the office of Popular Gold Finance, company, situated opposite Seawood station. A police official said, “The accused allegedly entered the office and threatened everyone by showing guns and swords. One of the accused, at gunpoint, took the keys of the locker from the manager of the organisation. Then he collected all jewellery from the locker, around 23 kg gold and Rs 9 lakh from the same locker. He checked all the drawers, the cabin of manager and came out. After this two others went inside the DVR room and broke the DVR and took all video footages from the place, and left in a Swift car.”

DCP Zone one of Navi Mumbai, Prashant Khaire, said, “The manager called us immediately after the robbers left the office. The office, like a finance company, doesn’t have security guards. We reached the spot and have formed two teams to find out the culprits. A shopkeeper from a shop downstairs gave us the car number. But that number is incorrect. Fortunately, we have got CCTV footage of the other nearby building which clearly shows the car and six people in the car. Another was a driver who didn’t go in to rob. We have started investigation and soon we will arrest the accused.”

A source said, “Navi Mumbai police officials have asked (the company’s Kerala office) to send their video copies here. Soon the officers will get all CDs (of the recording).”
