In a shocking case of ragging onboard local trains, four women who wanted to get off at Vasai attacked a college girl who boarded a Churchgate-bound local from Virar, leaving her with claw marks and traumatised, and with an asthmatic attack.

For Rutuja Naik, a first-year engineering college student, boarding the 8.40am from Virar is an everyday affair as the next couple of trains are only after 9am. However, on Tuesday morning, she was scratched, clawed and verbally abused by four women who insisted that she should have boarded a slow train for Andheri or Borivali instead. “I was standing on the footboard and was about to get off at Vasai when four unidentified women started abusing me using the filthiest language and taunted me for having boarded the Churchgate local. They said I should have boarded either an Andheri or Borivali slow train,” said Ms Naik. She said that she tried to reason with the foursome that she had to attend lectures at 9am but the women were in no mood to listen. “I needed to attend college at 9 am, but the women were not listening and started assaulting me. The scratches on my hand are proof ” she recalled.

Apparently, other women tried to help Ms Naik when she was being attacked by the four women but the latter just wouldn’t stop until such time the girl alighted at Vasai. A case has been registered with Vasai GRP who will go through the CCTV footage from cameras placed at Vasai station. “We have registered a complaint against unknown women commuters and will send a team of women cops to trace the four unidentified women who harassed Ms Naik, as she can identify them, and then register cases against them,” said Vasai PI Mahesh Bagwe, GRP.

GRP DCP (WR) Deepak Devraj said, “We are going to set a trap and make our women officers get into the same train that Ms Naik boards every day in plain clothes. We will try to catch the women once they are identified.”s still under investigation.”
