After taking suo-moto action against the Pune based Maple Group’s ‘misleading’ newspapers advertisements promoting its affordable homes scheme using the name of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the state government is now planning to grill more developers.

The government intends to seek out developers who use the same method of using the name of PMAY without having any permissions from the competent authority for promoting their constructions projects.

A meeting held last week in New Delhi where the state government officials met with the Union housing ministry officials to review the implementation of PMAY in Maharashtra. It was decided in the meeting that the state mission director of PMAY which is Nirmal Deshmukh in case of Maharashtra will prepare a list of developers who have adopted the same method to promote their projects like that of Pune based Maple Group.

“We have made a list of three developers for the same and the scrutiny is still in process,” said Nirmal Deshmukh, state mission director PMAY.

However, the names of developers have not been revealed yet as the scrutiny is still in process and once it is completed the names will be made public.

According to a senior Mantralaya official, “As PMAY is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet project, the state nodal agency for PMAY which is Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has been directed to stay alert in terms of keeping tab of developers terming their private projects as that of PMAY. Once the state mission director is prepares the list, it will be forwarded to the Mhada, which will take suo-moto action against the developers claiming their projects as that of PMAY.”

According to Mhada officials, it has received a proposal from only one private developer yet there are many developers in Mumbai Metropolitan Region advertising their projects using tag of PMAY. Commenting on the matter, S.S. Zende, chief executive officer, Mhada, said, “I will take the same action we took against the Maple Group once the list of developers using the tag of PMAY illegally is sent to me.”
