Nearly one-and-a-half-month into his arrest in connection with the murder of his estranged wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani, artist Chintan Upadhyay has moved the Dindoshi sessions court for bail.

Chintan’s lawyers informed that bail application will be tabled before the judge on Monday. Bail has been applied for on grounds that the investigating agency does not have any evidence against the artist. On Monday, the judge will give time to the prosecutor to reply on the plea. Chintan’s lawyers also claimed that the case diaries of the crime branch which had questioned Chintan for nine days after the murder have not been produced yet.

Meanwhile, the deceased Hema’s family has raised questions about the letter, signed by 61 artists, sent to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying that these artists are trying to save Chintan by diverting the police’s attention and delaying their inquiry.

A family friend of Hema, Sanchu Menon, who is representing Hema’s family in court, said that the letter is tantamount to putting pressure and the artists are trying to influence the investigation agency by writing to the CM.

Mr Menon alleged that the artists are trying to delay the investigation and submission of charge sheet by creating hurdles for the officials. Mr Menon said that earlier, they tried perjury and house sealing and now they had come up with a letter where they have raised questions about the investigation agency which is not good.

“With the help of this letter, these people are sending a message to the CM that police has no evidence against Chintan just to make sure that the police avoid opposing bail application in court,” claimed Mr Menon.

Mr Menon even alleged that Hema’s family fears that Chintan’s friends are helping the main accused, Vidhyadhar Rajbhar, to hide else it is not easy for anyone to hide for such a long time without financial support.
