Internet services were restored in Nashik as most parts of the district limped back to normalcy, though curfew continued in a few areas.

The district has experienced caste-based violence and protests since last Sunday after reports emerged that a minor Maratha girl was allegedly raped by a teenaged Dalit boy in Talegaon village. After the alleged incident, sporadic incidents of arson and stone pelting continued in Nashik from October 8 till October 13. So far, the police has registered 47 cases, arrested 141 rioters and seven “administrators” of social media sites. Search is also on for dozens of rioters who are absconding. The administrators of social media sites were accused of spreading messages, causing enmity in society and inciting riots.

About 40 police persons and scores of common people were injured in the riots, arson, stone pelting etc, the police said.

Curfew was relaxed for a while but continued in Talegaon (Anjeneri) and Talwade in Trimbakeshwar tehsil while Sec 144 (ban on Assembly) continued in some villages of Igatpuri tehsil.

Meanwhile, the police has begun inquiry against five police officers and staffers, who did not reach the affected areas in time.
