According to information provided by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), 20-year-old Rizwan Ahmed Ali Nawazuddin, the alleged second-in-command ISIS recruiter in India, had stayed at the residence of Noor Mohammad Shaikh after Mohsin Ibrahim Sayyed, an auto rickshaw driver from Malwani, introduced them.
Mohsin was on the run since December last year and has been nabbed by the Delhi police special cell.
He used to report directly to Rizwan. Some of the youths, including Ayaz were in touch with Rizwan. He was the one who indoctrinated these youths through Ayaz. The ATS official also said that Mohsin is linked to the four youths nabbed from Uttarakhand who were planning an attack in Haridwar during the famous Ardh Kumbh mela.
Moreover, sources also claimed that Mohsin is linked to another set of hawala operators. The ATS clarified that this set of hawala operators is different from the ones that provided money to alleged ISIS chief recruiter Mudabbir Shaikh, nabbed from Mumbra during the nationwide crackdown on ISIS.
Noor Mohammad had recently attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison due to alleged ‘torture’ by ATS — a charge rubbished by the anti-terror agency. Noor, Mohsin, Ayaz Sultan and Wazid Shaikh had gone missing from their residence and it was learnt that they would join the ISIS.
Ayaz had left the country in October last year and later reached Kabul, Afghanistan. He is suspected to have joined ISIS. Three of the other youths left in December and one of them, Wazid, was traced by ATS while Noor returned on his own
It is not clear yet if Noor or Wazid will be made accused or witnesses in the case. The source from the ATS said that a final decision would be taken about them only after completing their investigations, at the time of filing of chargesheet. But Mohsin would be booked for the offences, said the source.
