Experts said that the city lacked sexual awareness because of which myths and imaginary diseases were being perpetrated.
Terming it as psycho-sexual disorder Dr Ali Gabrani, a psychologist working with a Byculla-based private hospital, said, “To eliminate the disorder, a genuine effort should be made to promote a greater social awareness on sexual health which is lacking in our country.”
“Discussions on sex and sex-related topics are still taboo in our society and youngsters are clueless about the subject triggering depression, confusion and anxiety, and lots of psychological issues,” he said. He said, “to avoid major complications we need to conduct regular awareness camps.”
Dr Sagar Mundada, a psychiatrist at JJ Hospital, said, “Most aren’t aware of safe sex and hygiene. The government should take cognisance of this and conduct awareness camps and include a chapter in the curriculum. This will also help reduce sex crimes.”
